ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB

for Interfacing with Smart Stepper and Stepper Drivers

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver prevents Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) permanently damaging your motion controller whilst also enabling high speed open-drain signalling for longer cables.

  • Provides signalling to stepper drivers and Smart Steppers which have opto-isolated inputs
  • Inputs are compatible with 3.3v - 5.5v TTL signalling step/direction/enable from the motion controller
  • Widely compatible with motion control motherboards

Suitable for the following Smart Stepper motors:

  • NEMA 17 Smart Stepper and NEMA 23 Smart Stepper - original design (recommended) - minor wiring modification required to fit the ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB
  • Bigtree Tech S42A - derivative - pin compatibility with the ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB
  • MKS Servo42 - derivative - pin compatibility with the ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB

We recommend one line driver per Smart Stepper. If using a Smart Stepper we recommend you also use the ESTechnical Smart Stepper Signal Isolation & Power Conditioning PCB.

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB is also suitable for other stepper drivers.

Description

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB provides Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection and high speed open-drain signalling, ideal for signalling passed through long cables.

ESD Protection

Where installation of a stepper motor driver and/or Smart Stepper requires the use of longer signal cables there is an increased risk from ESD. Without protection ESD is likely to destroy the machine controller. The stepper motor drivers and Smart Stepper that are supplied with adaptors to connect your motion controller directly to long machine wiring do not offer ESD protection. Installing the ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB, will prevent ESD damage to the motion controller occuring. 

Higher Signalling Current

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB enables use of higher signalling current for improved noise immunity. The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB can sink up to 32mA per output making it ideal for driving optocoupler inputs. 

Compatibility

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB is compatible with stepper drivers and Smart Steppers with opto-isolated inputs. The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB inputs are  compatible with 3.3v - 5.5v TTL signalling step/direction/enable from the motion controller.

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB is also compatible with a range of motherboards including RAMPS, CNC Shield (by directly plugging in) and many other similar motion controllers which use the socketed stepper driver modules such as A4988 and DRV2588.  


We recommend one line driver per Smart Stepper. When using the ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB with a Smart Stepper we also recommend you use the ESTechnical Smart Stepper Signal Isolation & Power Conditioning Module PCB.

The ESTechnical Signalling Line Driver PCB for Smart Steppers is fully tested and is covered by a six month warranty. In the event of a fault we will repair or replace your equipment at our discretion. In some situations we may choose to refund the full purchase price of an item. This warranty does not cover intentional or accidental abuse or neglect. There is no express or implied warranty beyond what is stated. After the six months we will still repair/replace any product that is returned at any time, no questions asked, for a small fee - we think that's a fair policy since the controller requires fitting by the user and sometimes mistakes happen.
